Comfort Dentistry
If you feel anxious or fearful about your upcoming dental appointment, you are not alone. However, we want your experience with our office to be as comfortable as possible. With this in mind, we offer several options to help you feel relaxed during your visit.
Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help you feel at ease during your visit.
Oral Sedation: There are a number of oral medications we can prescribe for you to take shortly before your visit with us. This will help you feel relaxed and calm leading up to and during your visit.
Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is administered through a mask placed over your nose. Inhaling this gas helps you feel calm and relaxed during your visit and the effects wear off quickly once the appointment has concluded. If you would like to know more about sedation dentistry, please contact u at (337) 942-9233.
Dental Anesthesia
We use a number of methods to keep you feeling comfortable during procedures.
High-Strength Topical Gel: This gel is rubbed onto the area where the tooth is to be numbed. This helps ease the slight discomfort of administering the local anesthetic.
Local Anesthetic: Local anesthetic is used to numb a part of your mouth where a procedure will be performed. This is done through an injection.
Warmed Anesthetic: Studies have shown that when administering an anesthetic, if the anesthetic is warmed, it is more easily tolerated. We routinely administer warmed anesthesia to help with your comfort.
DentalVibe: The DentalVibe applies a light vibration to the tissues around the injection site while anesthesia injections are administered. Research has shown that when vibration and injection sensations are occurring simultaneously, the vibration feeling reaches the brain first and essentially blocks the feeling of the injection from being perceived by the brain. Patients who experience an injection with the DentalVibe are often unaware when the injection actually occurs.
